Cultural Leadership Academy

Cultural Leadership Academy

We strive to support the development of Ukrainian culture beyond the nation’s capital and regional centres. Such development requires motivated leaders: people that will define modern culture and engage regional communities to shape it.

We designed the Cultural Leadership Academy as a place to become one. Officials from governments of united territorial communities, in teams of five people, joined the programme to master cultural management. They came in with an idea and learnt how to turn it into a successful project: define target audiences, draft strategy, apply project management, evaluate the results, and scale the initiative. While working on these skills cultural leaders-to-be got to know each other and formed strong networks all over Ukraine.

The Cultural Leadership Academy is finished, but we continue to offer opportunities for cultural managers. Cultural Leadership Academy’s alumni can enjoy special grants, workshops, round tables, and online trips. Follow this page or subscribe to our newsletter to be the first to know if we will launch a similar programme.

This is for realising your cultural project successfully

Participants learnt everything needed to carry out cultural project successfully. We started with research, going through Ukrainian legislation on culture and decentralisation and conducting cultural mapping to define resources available. Then we proceed to planning: determining the target audience, mission, vision, goals and strategy of the project. To wrap it up, we concentrated on actual project management, evaluation of results, and scaling up.

This is for learning from proper experts

We had no doubts our trainers are professionals: each had at least two years of experience in teaching and consulting in the sphere of culture and creative industries. To help them design a well-worked programme, we held five facilitated sessions with them. Learn more about the 14 experts that taught the participants here.

This is for establishing ties with cultural managers from other regions of Ukraine

Participants learnt how teams from other united territorial communities dealt with challenges they could relate to and found among them partners to carry out projects with. Everyone got along swimmingly, as they had a lot in common.

This is for exchanging experience with the EU

The best the Academy’s participants had a chance to visit Germany, the Czech Republic or Austria to meet local cultural managers and learn about their experiences. The trip was an opportunity to plan a collaborative project with one of the countries on that list.

This is for professional advancement regardless of the pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic caused the Academy to go online. Participants met in Zoom and discussed the materials in Moodle. Although there were no in-person events, the programme was still full of new acquaintances and communication.

This is for you!

We connect people and opportunities

We support professional and creative exchange between Ukrainians and their EU colleagues. This encompasses 20+ programme lines managed by us and a constantly increasing database of the best opportunities offered by other European organizations. This is just the beginning: more opportunities, events and acquaintances are coming.

We are all over Ukraine

We are convinced that we should go where our support and information are needed the most: out in the regions. Organising Pop-Up Hubs, creative entrepreneurship in the regions is stimulated, whereas the Mobile Pavilion sets our concept on the move.
